Setting M Carb

Could someone give me an idea on the initial setting for a M carb. Also what does each adjusting screw do? And where is each one located. I mean as air/idle/main.

Are you operating and repairing this tractor without any sort of manual? This is an often asked question and the archives are full of information on M carbs. Check em out.

M Carb setting per my TSC gasket kit

Main jet- 3 turns out- When looking at carb on tractor- lower left side of carb

Idle circuit- 1.5 turns out- Front towards top at an angle

Set idle speed- you just have to adjust where you like it- the screw is the one with the spring- top left side with spring.

Hope this helps

With engine warm, run at full throttle. Turn high speed mixture screw in until the engine slows (falters) and then turn the screw out to obtain maximum rpm"s. Add about 1/2 additional turn out for power reserve.
Reduce engine speed to idle and adjust rpm"s to 450-500 or so. Adjust idle AIR screw (in = rich, out = lean) for maximum rpm"s. Re-adjust idle speed & mixture until they are where you want. Turn the idle air screw in about 1/8 extra for a little richness.
Repeat the proceedure so you know all carburetor circuts are functioning as designed.

The load adjustment screw needs to be turned 5 full turns off its seat to get maximum horsepower. At this point the pointed screw tip is completely out of the seat and the fuel is metered at the full volume possible for max power for plowing, tillage, silo filling, or any job where you need the engine's maximum power. Of coarse it will use the most fuel that way.

If you are are doing work that doesn't require full power like parading, pulling wagons, etc., you can screw it back in 2 to 3 turns. This will save fuel, but you won't have full power if you need it.
