idea for 350 diesel repower

Someone was asking about repowering a 350 diesel. How about a 50 gross horsepower 4 cyl Caterpillar, Cummins, Kubota, etc.?
there are some available from surpluscenter. com
right now. The engines make that power at 3000 rpm, so if you lower the max speed, probably would be similar to the original.
just a thought, you'll have to research the rest.

The original engine is a bit pricy to repair, but they are good runners (not good starters)
The engines you mention sound like a great idea for a custom tractor with high usability. Governing below rated speed might be hard on components, so I do not know if I would go all the way back to the Contenental RPM spec.
Judicious 5th gear driving must be considered!! JimN
 
I don't know about the rest of the engines but, the Cummins would be a good cantidate as its power is @1700 - 2000 range, 4B series that is.
