IH truck Question..sorry OT

We have a 1968 IH Loadstar 1600 with a 14 ft grain box. 345 V8,5+2 trans, double frame (had a lime spreader on it when new). Sharp old truck. Grandpa is wanting to get rid of it as has been replaced on the farm. Am I foolish for letting it go? It is real clean, always shedded. I always had thought of putting a flatbed on it with a gooseneck hitch and using it as an all around farm truck. What would a truck like this be worth? Thanks!

priceless if it has sentimental value.keep it one day you will miss it if you do sell it. +1 vote for keeping it

When I was growing up we had an old 57 Ford 2ton truck I would give anything to have now, I learned to drive in this old truck. So my advice is to also keep it, it can't be replaced.

From what I've seen, you would be lucky to get more than $2000. I say keep it & use it for what you want.

Value is not involved, sentement is.
The truck would make a nice display for a grocery, or Health food store, so it could sell for 3 to 4 grand. But it could be rented to them for 50 a month and still be yours!
Put a stake bed on it and smile. JimN

That ol' binder will run circles around any modern pickup truck pulling a gooseneck trailer and it will never complain. Keep it and put it back to work. You'll never find another one.

Oh heck yes, keep it. Thats just what I'm looking for. I want one to put on front of my gneck to take the old tractors to shows and pulls and stuff. We had a '63 1600 with a 16ft bed. That was too much bed for the truck and cab was in pretty bad shape. But it also had the 345 and ran like a sewing machine. Sold it when I was too young to do anything about it. I do remember only getting about what the bed and hoist was worth. All you would have to do is keep it inside and tuned up and running. I would think it will only increase in value. Go on ebay and look up IH trucks. Those old KB series from the 40's are starting to get some good coin.

Keep it brother! Our VFD has a '63 1300 4x4 that Howe built into a brush truck.I've been wrenching on it on and off for a couple of months getting ready to pass inspection.Has 12000 miles on it.That old 304 runs like a top(even if it is 40 mph)and everything is mechanical and no metric anything.Only drawback is some parts are getting a bit scarce.

I have a 1700 that I busted the hoist lifting dirt. Today, bought a 1970 1600 grain w hoist (4w2) for $700 at auction. Also bought 41 bales of hay and a trough to make the trip work. Truck drove home like a charm. I"m going to use the 1700"s parts to restore this one as the 1600 has a cleaner frame and fenders. Pleased as punch. Going to take it easier on it as an old truck is always old- like me. Could use a decent hay elevator (16->20 ft) if anyone has one for sale reasonable.
