460 cracked, leaking hydraulics -- how to fix/replace

I'm not a tractor-guy. I'm trying to help a friend get his 460 working. The #1 issue now is the lines that run under the seat into a small square block at the rear of the tracor have huge leaks where they meet the "box". The one line has a coupling at the box that someone has scab welded. The other is just cracked..again, right at the box so there's no way to cut and use fittings. It looks to me like I have two choices. 1. Find a replacement set of lines and "box" or have them brazed etc. by some local shop....now, I guess heres my question...is this repair something that is "common" or "easy" or whatever you want ot call it. Or should I be searching the tractor used parts for a used part.

Thanks

Well the Barn Yard repair that we have used for years on this is to cut out the bad spot and weld braze in a coupler 1/2 inch pipe couplers and replace with hyd hose.

As T/V indicates, putting Having Fittings heliarced on will allow hoses to replace the steel. Good Idea! it also limits cracking by reducing vibration. JimN

We used compression fittings on the sawed off lines, & used 1/2 inch hoses to go to the back. Don't know if these were Harvester items or generic. This was 20 years ago, & they're still O.K.

Because the leaks were right where the lines met the valve regulator it wasn't a deal where I could just cut the bad part out and use hoses. So I disconnected the leaking scabbed fitting and cut the line on the other side and took the valve to a hydraulic shop. They are going to remove the old fitting from the one side and the brazed line from the other. That will leave me with just the valve and then they'll tap the valve and insert two new fittings. That will allow me to connect the valve to the lines with a short hose on one end and a compression fitting set up on the other....

The machine work will be $100. I'm sure the hose and fittings will be another $100....oh well.
