1066 power steering

We have a 1066 and a 1466 with the same problem. After the tractor has sat long enough to get cold the power steering, brakes and cluth assist will not work. The only way to get it to work is park the tractors going down hill before shutting them off. Its not so bad in the summer but is a real problem in the winter. Any ideas??

Thanks

The first thing to do would be to check to ensure you have an adequate amount of fluid in the resevoir, then i would try and change the hydraulic filter, and if that does not work, I would guess that your MCV pump is probably getting weak and should be replaced.

Ya may have a leaking sump check plug , ya may have a air leak where the range transmission and the speed transmission come together , ya may have a small hair line crack in the suction tube where the tube mounting tab is , ya may be running both tractors to low on hyd oil. Try assing and extra three gallon to them and see if this helps. And like saind below she may be in need of a MCV rebuild and new pump.. And and other thought when ya changed the hyd. filter the ladt time did ya replace the O/Ring on the hyd filter ??????

Ok I added an extra 5 gallons of fluid to the 1066 and it picked up the oil just fine. So would that probably point to the suction tube leaking?? Thanks

Either the suction tube or the O/Ring between the speed trans and range trans but still could be the o/ring on the hyd filter cap.For now run it a bit over full and when the time comes for a T/A then put in the new o/ring in there as you have to anyway .As for the pick up tube ya darn near have to pull the rockshaft housing to get to it unless ya got really long arms .

Much more likely to be the seal between the clutch housing and rear frame. The suction tube will be completely below the oil level when the transmission is at the full mark. The o ring (quad ring) seal is above the oil level which allows air to enter. A small leak will allow the oil to drain back through the filter when the engine is off creating an air bubble which the front pump has a hard time clearing. A pump with some wear on it has an even harder time. It will not do any harm to run the system with an extra five gallons in it.
