well, we bought a farmall 460 gas about a year ago and put a new clutch and ta in it. after putting it back together and painting it, we soon found out that the hydraulics don't work. We hooked it to out 470 disc the other day and it wont lift it up..... we plugged it into the couplers on the back and made sure they were in good. when you pull the lever, the hoses on the disc flex like it is trying to lift it, but it dont go. where should we start to fix it. We dont know very much about the hydraulics. thanks.

I have a 300u and I think some of the components are the same. I think the best place to start for these hydraulics is on your knees! Then, with a lot of good advice from this site you can have success.
I guess the first thing I would do is test the PSI at the safety block. Mine is right at 1,300# PSI. That will tell you which way to look, if you don't have good pressure, I would check the screen in the safety block, if that doesn't do it, check the screen in the reservoir (I assume a 460 has a screen there also), then the safety block itself and maybe the pump. If you have good pressure, then could be leakage in your control valve. To isolate, you could put a T in after your control valve and test there. Hope I haven't given you any bad advise, but that is what I would do to get an idea where the problem is.

Well first off even if the 460's hyd . system is 100 % she is a good but shy of having enough hyd. pressure to lift a 470 . They will lift a 370 with a 3x8 cyl but to lift a 470 you would need a 5 inch at least . Now to get it to lift it you would have to get that system up to 1750 . Get a good hyd . pressure gauge that is good to 3000 PSI . and see just what your system is putting out . should be around 1250 just not enough for bigger equipment.
