Was wondering if any stage 1 Super H's were made in 1954 or did they change to stage 2 after a certain serial # ?

Thanks

David: I believe SH #19234 was the very first Stage 2 Super H. It would have been manufactured in late 1953. Seems strange to me, but the 1954 Super H's seem to bring more $ than the late 1953 SH's - even though both are identical Stage 2 SH's. Probably due to a lack of understanding of when the stage 2 SH was actually put into production - late 1953, and not at January 1954. Want to save $ and still have a stage 2 SH? Find a late 1953. Sweet, sweet tractor. mike (#20856 J)

I believe live hydraulics is the difference. The stage 2 has the battery under the seat to make room for them.

(quoted from post at 19:05:52 08/17/08) Dumb question but what is the difference between a stage 1 and a stage 2?

SteveNH is correct; the stage 2 has live hydraulics - the stage one does not. What this means is..... if you have a stage 1 and depress the clutch pedal, you lose your hydraulics, since they are tranny driven. If you have a stage 2, it does not matter whether you have the clutch pedal depressed or not, as long as the engine is running your hydraulics will function up or down, since they are driven off a pump mounted on the engine. While you can "train" yourself to make the best of the old type, live hydraulics are a great convenience. The two are easy to differentiate; the stage 2 has the battery mounted under the seat to make room for the reservoir/valve body unit mounted under the gas tank. You will see hydraulic lines running from a pump at the base of the distributor to the valve body/reservoir, on the right side of the tractor. mike

May be wrong but I believe Stage I has front bolster same as H and Stage II has front bolster same as 300.

That is also true, but, in my opinion, somewhat secondary to the main feature benefit - live hydraulics. However, you are right that it should be mentioned when making a comparison between the stage 1 and the stage 2. mike
