SA 3 point conversion

What are you guy"s (or gals) opinions on the 3 point conversion for the Super A? It sure would be nice to be able to use the implements, but I"m concerned about the strength of the hydraulics, the strength of the fenders, and the fact that the pto is offset when running a mower. Anybody here have any personal experiences? Thanks

lacash: They will lift 500-600# provided you have the mechanical advantage correct and center point of load is within 30" of the hitch point. The Super A 3 point hitch falls fast if implement extends back too far. Be careful there are hitches on the market that won't lift half what I suggested.

If you are somewhat skilled and have the tools, Hugh MacKay has a superior design for a Super A 3-point hitch which you can build from his plans, which he offers for sale.
I already had a "Worksaver" brand 3-point on my SA, and while it is not perfect, I mow all the time with a finish mower mounted to it. I have been using it for years as the family lawn mower, and it is plenty strong to lift my 5-foot finish mower and the offset pto is not a problem at all. Additionally, the fenders have not been a problem either. It can occasionally get a little light on the front end in certain situations, and for that reason I have front wheel weights on my SA. Finally, it is not a big deal to remove the 3-point hitch and quickly re-install my rear cultivators for summer weed control in the garden. When I get too old to own 'em all, the Super A (with 3-point hitch) will be the last one to leave the family.... mike

Mike: Your right, the fenders if in good condition will withstand all the tractor will lift. I have my own design, 3 point kits on my 130 and 140, and I regularly use a disk that weighs 1,000#. That disk is very close to the tractors lifting limit. My tractors have the fast hitch spring assist, but those fenders are exactly same as Super A. Late SA, 100, 130 and 140 have a bit more hydraulic lift than early SA.

3 pt works fine on a SA. I've got 140's with them and they lift 800#s plus, and mow with a 6 ft finish mower and use many other implements.

Hugh mackay: So exactly what tools are needed? I'm definitely interested in your setup.
I just hated to damage the tractor that was my grandfather's and the first thing I ever drove.

I used Hugh"s plans and am happy with the hitch on my SA. I have only used it to run a 6 foot york rake so far and it has worked fine. I reused a bunch of worksaver hitch parts on it since I got a worksaver hitch off craigslist for $40 from some guy that moved into a house and the previous owner left it in a box in the garage.
