IH 1586 PTO

I am trying to fix a broken 1000 RPM pto shaft on a IH 1586. The CaseIH parts web site show that the 1586 only had a single speed PTO (1000 RPM), I clearly have a dual speed both 1000 and 540 RPM. The pictures for a Hydro 100 and Hydro 186 clearly match the PTO on my tractor. Would it have been possible for the PTO systems to be interchanged?

Yes many of the 15's 1000 pto's were whiched to a dual pto from a salvage yard.

Nope it cannot be done unless your 1586 has a 1486 rearend which is not likely, 1586 has different rearend because of the planetaries. but ive been wrong and misinformed before..>

When I worked at a dealership when these tractors were sold new, if you wanted a dual speed PTO, they would be ordered from the factory without a PTO. They would also order a PTO kit for a 1086 which we would then install before the tractor was delivered. The 1586 uses a larger internal PTO drive shaft than the smaller tractors so the shaft in the rear housing had to have two different size couplers on it to fit the dual speed PTO. Everything else is the same as the 1086.

yup, our 3588 has a dual PTO out of a 1456. They are all interchangeable. Ours just needed the adapter in front of the PTO unit, and our PTO lever in the cab is reversed.
