Cub Light Won't Work

I just got my 1949 Farmall Cub back from the painter. One of the headlights will not work even though it worked well before it went. I replaced the bulb but it still won't work. Any suggestions what I can check or do to get it working?

The painter probably painted some of the mounting work so the light is not getting a ground. Run a wire from a good bare spot on the light mounting bolt back to the battery ground. If the lights work then, check the mounting brackets for paint that could be insulating the light body from ground. If you have a volt meter, you can also check the voltage where the wire connects to the light. If the light switch is on and you have voltage there, it is either inside the light or a bad ground as mentioned above. If no voltage at the connection on the light, then it's in the wiring between the switch and the light.

Had the same probelm with mine after I painted it. I ran one wire from the switch to each light, then tied the other 2 wires on the lights together. It was tight with my big ole hands, but got it working fine.

The lights only have one connection. Ground is through the tractor frame back to the battery.

Most likely, the light isn't getting a good ground. You need to scrape the paint of anywhere there's metal-to-metal contact on all the parts between the light and the hood. The hood is obviously making good ground because the other light is working.

The painter could have broken the light bulb, too. The only way to figure that out is to remove the bulb, get some wire, and touch it to the battery to see if it works.

Also check that the hot wire is "hot" as Gene suggested.
