Super A rear wheel clamps

I am restoring a badly used Super A. I need to know what kind of clamps are used to hold the rear rims to the wheels and where I can purchase them. The wheels were held on with a collection of nuts and washers. I would like to do it right. Any help will be appreciated. Russ

The clamps on the rims are usually welded right on the rims. I just buy new rims the old ones are most of the time rusted right out.

Erik, Thanks for the reply. The rims are excellent. The loops on the rims , which the bolts pass through, are also good and are rivited on the rims. I just need know what type clamps go between the loops on the rim where the bolts pass through to hook the rim to the wheel. Russ

Russ,

There isnt any "clamps". All you need is the square headed bolts and the heavy duty nuts, oh, and the lock washers. Dont use the regular nuts, that aint correct.

The bolts on the right are longer than on the left.

Check around where the valve goes, thats where the rust starts.

your right on the money SuperA-Tx [u:755be49d6c] IF[/u:755be49d6c] he has the oe rims but if he has aftermarket those square bolts will just fall through the loop theres nuthin in the middle of the loop therefore on the aftermarket wheels he needs carrage(SP)? head bolts

Any safety/strength issues with using regular Grade 5 nuts on these?

Three of the four lug bolts on mine were loose on the right side! When I pulled the bolts, the threads were buggered up around the middle of the bolt from being loose. You couldn't tighten them down completely. Nuts would be tight, bolts would be flopping loose in the wheel. Previous owner had rounded the corners off the nuts trying.

Until I can order new bolts, I replaced the one lock washer with three, and used a new Grade 5 nut so I could really bear down with the breaker bar and get them TIGHT.

Guys, Thanks for all the input. Sorry my camera isn't working so I can't send a picture. What I have is four square loops 1 3/8" x 1 1/2" riveted to the rim. I hope this will help. I am worried about the bolts slopping around in the loops when the rims are attached to the wheels. Thanks Russ

Grade 5 is what I used on mine, course thread, square head. Also used the heavy duty nuts, grade 5.

Fastenal carries them both.

Mine were messed up too when I did the restoration but the left was the bad side. At first I used the old bolts but first time I drove it I heard popping comming from the wheel. Found the bolts came loose so I tightened them down again. After they came loose the second time I decided I better just get all new stuff. Wouldnt want to be driving down the road and the rim and tire come off.
