Got my wiring straightened out---thanks guys.
Now for the next problem (issue) (challenge), I finally was able to repair my welded together steering shaft u joint (hours of grinding, filing and hammering, a new cross and caps, some JB weld for the low spots where I got carried away with the die grinder, and she's good to go).
Took the cover off the steering gear box did a visual check, gears looked good, topped off the grease and covered it back up . Whats happening now is the steering shaft wants to "walk" back and forth as I steer from one direction to another. I've tightened the shaft collars and u joint as tight as possible and turning the steering wheel just pushes them around on the shaft. Anyone know what might be going on here?
Thanks
Bob S.

Did you drill or counter sink holes where your set screws go?
If you tighten the set screws without a flat or countersink on the shaft, they will work loose forever.

I can't think of what it is called exactly, but on the front of the steering box, in-line with the steering shaft, there is a cover with a large hex shaped fitting made right on it. Directly behind and inside this cover is the thrust bearing for the steering shaft. That cover needs to be tightened up to put a pre-load on the thrust bearing. If the cover is not tight enough, you will experience the symptoms you are describing.
