No. 8 plow tailwheel

I just got a No. 8 2-16 plow on steel from a friend's dad. It probably hadn't been used in 50 years. I cleaned up the slat molboards, greased it up, and took it out for a spin. I plowed about a quarter acre of sod with it. I pulled it with my M in second gear and it gave the tractor a workout. My friend's dad was glad to see the plow working again.

Unfortunately, after the previous owner had left, I went back out to finish up the patch I wanted to plow and when I turned the plow to the right the tailwheel fell off. From the looks of it there is a bolt or pin that holds it on and a cover with a zerk to keep the axle greased. Is that a bolt or a pin? It is too mangled to tell at first glance. Also, is there anything else, like a large washer, that should be there? I only found the tailwheel with the cover still attached so I don't know if there is any more.

Thanks,
Mark.

Remove the cap on the furrow wheel and look at how it is held on. The tail-wheel has the same type setup but I think the shaft is smaller on the tail wheel.

There would have been a step washer you could adjust.Usualy so worn I just make a spacer.Watch outside diameter so you can screw the cap back on.Don't tighten set screw to tight or it will crack the cap.Mark

Thanks for your replies. This has been a busy time and I wanted to know how much I was getting into before I tried fixing it.

Thanks,

FYI, I got it fixed tonite. It is held on with a pin and slotted spacer. It was pretty simple to fix. Sadly I've had a lot of "simple fixes" this summer that have become laborious marathon repair sessions. I'll test it out over the weekend to be sure.
