Wheel removal.

Sorry for such a mundane post. I'm trying to remove the original steel hubs (welded to rubber rims later) from my '42 H. Can't do it ... no way. Have sprayed every penetrating product I've got. Busted a good breaker bar today. What's a guy to do?

Also ... am planning on removing my belly pump to replace the seal gasket (which I assume is under the cover). Can I get these or do I have to cut one on my own?

If you are talking about nuts and bolts, a little heat will probably do it. Even a small butane bottle might do it or you might have to have someone with a torch heat them.

Yes it will make them swell.

Thats why you heat them and let it cool before trying to turn.

Also if you try to turn when they are hot you can strip the threads or gauled the threads.

The swelling will break the rust loose.

As for the pump, There is a seal, not gasket that will been replacing. There are many posts in the archives on how to do this.

Helps to have two people and a floor jack to remove the pump. The It service manual also shows how to make a handle to insert through the bottom of the pump to help steady it. I'll see if I cant find that diagram.

3/4" drive socket sets are the ticket, as is heat. !/2" drive is not going to do it. The others have the other issues in hand. JimN

I've also had pretty good luck with heating, allow to cool a bit, and then soaking them down with penetrating oil. Go drink a cup of coffee and then come back to it.

I used a boxed end wrench and a bottle jack. I wedged the jack between the wheel and the wrench and jacked it open. The slow steady pressure along with some penetrating oil seemed to have made the difference.
