Cub front tire size

I need new front wheels and tires for my 1947 Cub. Will a 4.00-12 tire fit a 3.0-12 wheel?

www.external_link states stock tire size on a Cub is 4.00x12. Usually the rim will be about 1" narrower than the suggested tire. I think it may help protect the bead from abrasion and it forces the tire bead to bite into the rim. So yes, 4.00x12 on a 3x12 wheel.

The original front wheel is 2.5" wide. It had a 4.00-12 tire.
