shifter rails/forks - reinstall of case cover help

I had the luxury of rebuilding a trans in my H due to a new countershaft needed. I"ve got it all done, now tomorrow I gotta drop the case cover back on it with the rails and forks. I have the older style with no access panel to stick your hand in there to help with alignment. Is there a trick to putting the cover back on the transmission so the forks line up properly? I"m just leary because you can"t get your hands in there after the fact to see if the forks on on the guides on the gears. I know HOW it"s supposed to go, but since I"ve never done this before it seems kinda omonus. (spelling?)

Thanks in advance.

Make sure the gears are in neutral BEFORE you lower the cover down. also have gear shift lever in neutral postion. When lowering come down slowly with a cherry picker or some other means of coming down slow and easy. Use a flash light to look in and make sure that the shift forks come down into the slots on gears. Use a long bar to move the gears slightly to align everything up if not so already. Not a bad job just make sure it shifts correctly before bolting down and starting the tractor

No access panel? I don"t know about your H, but I just worked through the belt pulley opening on mine. Took a couple attempts, but I got it. Same story on my M.
