Cylinder size

How do I measure the size and stroke of the hitch hydraulic cylinder on my 400?
If it is a 3 inch I would like to go to a 4 inch and then use the 3 inch as a toplink. Will any cylinder from the farm store work as long as it will attach?

What kind of hitch? Fast or 3pt?

Most commercial aftermarket 3pts use a standard 8" stroke cylinder. Measure the distance between the pins with it extended, then the same when retracted, then subtract.

Diameter... A 3" cylinder's tube will be about 3-1/2" in diameter on the outside. a 4" cylinder will be about 4-1/2".

It is a fast hitch with 3 point arms and a toplink so I guess that's a 3 point conversion?

No. You have a fast hitch with 3 point adapters. A 3 point conversion requires the complete removal of the fast hitch, and then the aftermarket 3 point is installed.

Is there a major difference in function? The toplink I have is in the wrong place, the geometry is wrong. For what I do it works. I really don't have much stuff. Someday!

The measurements where 3 1/2 diameter on the cylinder and 1 1/8 on the rod. 8 inch stroke.
At 3/4 throttle she will lift herself up to change/move a tire around.
So maybe the cylinder is just not big enough to do what I am asking it too?
