Check the weight of tractor and parts, check scrap price for weight, tell him that is your offer. Keep you Ford. If 354 is running and testable- then MAYBE consider swap. 354 sounds like English pattern that came to Canada and drifted south- parts may be hard to find, thats perhaps why it isn't running and is for sale or trade. My dad had one in the early 70's. Since it often got compared to my granddad's 454 it came out on the short end of the stick. 454 rocked... 354 sucked...and it didn't stay long

Major shortfalls... 2 stage PTO (better than nothing, not nearly as nice as live) with a hard to grab lever. Too light weight... didn't handle a 5foot bushhog well. Hard to get to oil filler or spark plugs. Power steering worked on a hydralic cylinder that was rooted under the footrest under the clutch. Only took hitting one stump to create a real PIA (had to drill bolts out of both the cylinder end... and the transmission case). Transmission is not (as I recall) syncronized.

English built and imported from about 71-73.. different factories in England between the 354 line and 454 line... and a world of difference.

I think I'd keep the 2n...
