Disc Brakes for Super M

My neighbor just replace the disc brakes on his super M and there is a problem. When you apply the brake pedal it does not stop the tractor. If you put real heavy preasure it will slow the tractor down only. Any suggestions are appreciated.

The design of those brakes, using no rotor, but instead the two "outer surfaces" Does not allow any replacement of the "rotor" when it is worn too thin. Your inner and outer surfaces have most likely been worn down. The only solution is to take the outer cases in to a shop and have them planed down about1/10 of an inch.

Do one side and check it out. Take off more if you're not satisfied. Then do the other side the same.

You could also have the shop chuck that case in a lathe and just ever so slightly score that shiny surface.

Not to be dumb, but my brother had a 350 and the brakes allways worked this way, light pressure hardly any brakes, hard pressure they allmost locked up the wheels. They appeared to not be progressive even when new.

The disk brakes on these tractors are not power brakes, so expecting them to do anything with light pedal pressure is unrealistic. You really need to stand on them if you want to stop.

The permanent braking surfaces develop a glaze on them, which you have to roughen up with a grinder from time to time to keep them working. Just replacing the replaceable disks often isn't enough.

If the brakes on the Super M are like those on a 450, those ball bearings between the plates have to be very clean. And the grooves they run in need to be free of all rust and dirt. Fought mine for years till really cleaned them up.
