Super A Touch Control question for Hugh or anyone

On my Super A, pretty much every time I go to use it I have to top off the hydraulic system. Never noticed a puddle under it but the engine oil level is much higher than the upper petcok on the pan so I'm thinking there must be a seal bad where the pump bolts to the timing cover area.

Is this a correct assumption? If so, is this seal still available from CaseIH? Anybody happen to have a current part number for it? And finally, how bad of a job is it to replace? Thanks!

Yes the seal has failed in the pump, easy fix all parts can be found at the local case/IH dealer. A realtive easy fix you have to pull the pump apart etc... Note though that a speedi sleeve may be required if the pump shaft seal has a grove in it.

If you have a pesco pump number 051012-020-01 thru 051012-020-07 and 051012- 024-05 thru 051012-024-07 (the numbers are stamped into the pump) a rebuild kit is available under part number 355207R91 for around $35.00. If it is not a pesco, I think there is a different number for the kit. The kit includes a set of instructions. If the shaft is a groove where the seal rides, you will need a speedi-sleeve or it will leak again. This is a speedi-sleeve:

You can get the sleeve through NAPA once you determine the part number based on the shaft size.

Not a bad job, but everything must be kept super clean.

It has either a seal or o-ring, both are generic, meaning anyplace that sells seals or o-rings has or can get it. One thing the others did not mention: If the shaft has a groove where the o-ring ran, you need to take the pump to a machine shop and have the shaft hole enlarged to accept the speedi sleeve. If it has a seal this is not necessary.

Ron: You've been looked after quite by these folks, nothing I can add. Give special attention to the grove CNKS mentions. Neglected, that one can lead you to do all the labor twice.

Thanks for all the replies! Figured it'd be something simple, but since I'd never had one apart I figured it's always best to ask people with experience!

And yep, I'm familiar with speedy-sleeves. Spent alot of years turning wrenches on automotive applications and put alot of 'em on differential pinion yokes, etc. so that'll be no problem if needed.

Just got the Super A tuned up and running like new again this spring and it'll be nice to be able jump on it and go without always having to dump oil in so that the hydraulics will lift the sicklebar mower. We've had to add oil every so often ever since I first started mowing hay on the thing in '76, and recently it's been getting to be so frequently needed that it's as much of a habit to top it off as it is to grease the mower before using it.

thanks again!
