The bearings in my pulley drive are noisy-can I remove the pulley drive from the pto without parts dropping where I don't want them to? Also, does the pto housing just come off the back of the trans without worrying about dropping parts into the trans?
Thanks in advance

Yes, and yes. Just use care, especially when removing the PTO unit from the transmission/rear end housing. Be SURE to remove ALL the bolts that hold the housing on and then gently pry it off those locators. The cast iron around the bolts and the locators is quite thin and easily broken if care is not taken.

Got the pto pulled down-gears look good, every bearing in it, while intact, is noisy. Does anyone offer a bearing/seal kit for this or should I just go to the local parts supply? Also, I noticed no gasket between pto and pulley housing, only shims-is this correct?

Thanks again

Got the pto off and apart, no problem. Any trick to getting the small gear off the top shaft without breaking something? My 20-ton press and heat didn't seem to impress it at all. Got it soaking in pb blaster right now. Also, how to get shaft and gear out of pulley drive housing-got outer bearing off. (ordered shop manual from IH dealer, got owner's manual instead. Oh well)

thanks in advance
