M Side Plate

OK. So, I'm getting 'round to reinstalling the carburetor on my M. I figured I'd touch-up the paint a bit, with the carb out of the way. So, I start hitting the metal with a hand-powered wire brush. A few swipes with the brush and a wire-thin stream of anti-freeze starts spurting from the side cover on the block. Pin-hole rust through. Deep sigh. So, I'll order a side cover and go from there. It just keeps going. No telling what things are going to look like behind that cover. I keep telling myself. This is a hobby this is a hobby this is a hobby. Oh, well, my tractor will be better for me cleaning out that area. Probably more leaks than the one I found, so this is for the best.

Consider yourself lucky in a sense. There are some of those water header covers that do not leak, but the flow diverters on the back side are totally rusted away, and the engine will not cool properly. Make sure the new cover you order DOES have those flow diverters on it. Some of the aftermarket covers do not have them.

I ordered the one from YT Mag. If it does not have the diverters, I'll be sure to let the organizers of this site know it. I'll bet you $0.02 that it does have the diverters. This is a quality site.

Thanks for the head's up, though. That's why I post stuff here, to get all these tid-bits.

Just as a matter of interest does the H side cover also have flow diverters? I've never taken one off an H but will need to very soon I think. MTF

Yes, the H water header cover has the diverters also.
