Noise in Hydraulic IH 686

I went out yesterday afternoon and added 3 gallons of fluid - one gallon at a time and that really made a difference. I changed the filter and cleaned the screen about 3 or 4 days ago. Started the tractor and let it run for about 2 minutes and all seemed well. But then the sucking air noise started again. Increased the rpms to 1000 and that seemed to quiet it down. Shut the tractor off and brought the fluid up to the full mark. A few days later I added the 3 gallons. With the additional 3 gallons added yesterday the fluid is 2 and 1/8 inches above full. I don't think it would be save to run the tractor that way.
Are the pump expensive and are they hard to replace? Anybody have any suggestions. James

Ran a 656 five gallons over full for years. Didn't want to split it to change the $1.00 suction tube O ring. Didn't hurt it a bit.

I got a 1086 that I run over full for the same reason. Suction tube.

We will fix it the next time we got her opened up.

Yep, I run my 666 overfull for that very reason others stated. Won't hurt anything, and is a common practice.

This tractor has a oil return tube that comes down from the top and returns oil into the suction tube. Remove the inspection plate above the PTO and look into the rear housing and see if that tube is broke or unscrewed. Any air getting into that return tube will cause your noise.
