valve cover removal

got the H put back together,got it runing.Now I want to adjust the tappets but I can't get the cover past the steering rod.Should I remove the studs.Thanks

It's been awhile, but I recall only having to rotate the generator out of the way to remove the valve cover. The studs didn't come out, and I certainly didn't pull the steering shaft. I may also have removed the radiator brace.

Personally, I'd rather remove the steering shaft. mike

yep, the generator. adjusted intake and exh. to 20 thousands and now that i think about it , i dont hear them tapping or making any noise. dont you think you should hear them a little?
