c-135 engine

I am in need of a c-135 engine I picked up a farmall 340 with cylinders 2 and 3 stuck due to a leaking head gasket, and sitting for 8 years. There is a uc-135 power unit for sale on ebay, but I am not certain that it will be the exact same to work in a farmall 340. I am in Central Illinois

Have you soaked the pistons with ATF? You can free up that engine with a lot of patience. You're probably need to rebuild this engine anyway
so I would pull the engine. Pull the head and oil pan and loosen the rod nuts. Remove one of the rod caps and use a piece of 2X2 oak and a big hammer and drive the piston out. The sleeve may come out when doing this, but with heat from an acetylene torch you can free the piston and be able to reuse the rod. You can always take the block to your local auto machine shop and have them pressed out. Your block probably needs to be cleaned of any dirt or sludge. I think those are wet sleeves and they're not pressed into the block so they should come out with a little effort. The area where the sleeve seals are needs to be cleaned too. Rust and dirt gather in that area and may cause an overheating problem.
Take a lot of pictures and notes and make sketches
too. They will be a big help during the rebuild.

I've a Super C with a C-135 engine. If I remember correctly the C-135 was in the 340, the 404 and a combine. The flywheel is different for the 340 because of the independent PTO and would require changing to use on a Super C so we went with the combine engine, I'm not sure about the 404! It's been over 10 years ago so I'm not sure of anything but I think the UC-135 might not be an easy interchange with a 340.

This is part of the fun of restoring a tractor. Take your time and work on that engine, you'll be glad you did when your done with it. Besides, you'll most likely save some money doing it your self.

Craig: Did you ever hear the saying, "the devil you know is easier to deal with than the devil you don't know". Your 340 is a sleeved engine and completely rebuildable.

Just out of curiosity, where in central IL are you? I'm in Jerseyville and have a 340 utility that keeps me busy. Real busy...
