Morning All,
I am trying to buy some hyrdaulic oil for my
skid loader and am overwhelmed by the number of
oils available.
How do you select from all the types,
AW32,46.68 R & O Hydrastat.
I know that some are like 5,10 20 wgt but R & O
? And what should they be used for and when.
What needs to be used for construction equipment,
tractor hyd. skidloaders, lawn equip ????
Can anyone shed a little more light on this please.
Thanks,
Harry

Your owners manual will shed quite a bit of light on the subject. In fact, it will tell you exactly what needs to be in there.

Ok Thanks,
But if you were going to say sell oil to a customer,How would you know what grage to give.
I work in an auto parts store and customers come in all the time and say give me some hyd oil for my jd or case 850 or my cat dozer.or what ever
how do you know what oil to give them cause most of the time they want it fast and dont know what it uses?

I've only ever seen two types of hydraulic oil in an auto parts store:

1. R&O type
2. Hytran/Hygard compatible

No grades, nothing complicated. The bottles list what they're used in and what they're compatible with.

You really can't hurt a hydraulic system by using the "wrong oil." That's a myth perpetuated by people who don't understand simple physics. As long as it's liquid and slippery, it will work.

The jobber that the parts store buys from should be supplying you with catalogs and such, and the application for each type of oil will be listed in those catalogs.

...and the parts store should be training you and the other employees. That does not happen often. I work at a partstore too--no training here! YT and google are my school, along with reading the catalogs during slow periods.
