Farmall 706 Question

Have had the 706 for a month and been using it in the hay field to tedder, rake and to bale round and square bales. Also, use it to load and unload round bales. It has been running good. My question is this and it has just started this. It will start and run fine and then it will die. It has done this 3 times now in the past week. I mean there is nothing. No spark, no clicking nothing. I can take a screw driver and hit the starer celenoid and it will turn over and start, but as soon as I take the screw drive away it will die. I thought maybe the ignition switch was bad. I took it out and checked it out. It was ok. Put the switch back in and it fired right back up. The second time it did it I let it set for about 5 minutes and it fired back up. Same thing for the third time. Any suggestions?

My M was doing the same darned thing this spring; just about drove me nuts trying to figure it out.

Turns out the positive battery cable was shorting to ground with vibration just enough to kill 'er.

i would start with new points, new solenoid, and new cable from solenoid to battery. that is what we do when we get a new tractor.

I am not positive how a gas 706 is wired but your problem could be the starter solenoid, If the power wire from the solenoid comes from the starter. I have seen this on other tractors. Usually the solenoid will have the battery cable, a wire from the key switch, and a wire to the coil. All on three different posts.
