Hello,
I am currently selling a 1940 H that i had restored and am currently restoring a 1941 H. A guy called me today to ask about the '40. One of his questions was "What is the difference between a 1940 and a 1941 H?" I i did not have an answer. The only thing i know for sure is that the front wheels fasten to the hubs different. Other than that I had no clue! Anyone help me out??

Thanks, Matt

The '41 is one year newer than the '40. That is the only difference. My '40 H has the adjustable tread front wheels. I think the choice between adjustable and non-adjustable was up to the buyer. Had nothing to do with the year the tractor was made.

Depends on when the 1940 H was built. Early 1940s will have a different transmission gearing, seat assembly, PTO, transmission deck, sheet metal attachments, some sheet metal differences.

Diffrent transmission gearing? Were the early '40s slower? Also how rare are the deck plates with the gear shift pattern that is missing the 5th gear?

The gears themselves were narrower than later production. The four speed cast into the deck indicates that the tractor was shipped on steel wheels- fifth gear was still in the transmission, but it was locked out from being used to prevent high speeds on steel wheels. This also was only on early tractors.

Are that tractors that have the deck plates that are missing the 5th gear worth any more that ones that do not? How much does that impact the value of the tractor??
