Drained the tranny oil out the other day via the small plug adjacent to the window that allows you to see the hydraulic and tranny shafts. Discovered the large plug at the end on the differential and got more oil out. Can I assume that this is oil all from the same souce and that there are just two plugs to allow for complete removal of the oil? Why not just have a single plug at the end? I ask because this doesn't make sense.

Also ... is the level check for the tranny adjacent to the cluth pedal?

Also ... I drained the oil from the belly pump and only got a couple of quarts. Can I assume the guy who sold me the machine just didn't watch the level there?

Is there a level check for the belly pump?

Thanks ... and sorry for the simple minded questions. I'll see if I can come up with some real stumpers shortly.

You are correct, the two plugs you removed are both drain plugs for the trannsmission and rearend assembly. The vast majority of the oil is drained out of the rear plug, while the front plug is for draining the small amount of oil held in a small depression at the front of the transmission. When the oil is up to the plug by the clutch pedal, then it is full. The tranny/rearend holds 6 gallons. The belly pump holds 6 quarts, there is level check for the belly pump, if it is empty, just add 6 quarts and it will be full. It is probably low because the pump seal leaks.

The transmission drain plug is the large one at the back of the tractor, below the PTO. The transmission level check plug is on the carb side of the tractor on the side of the transmission. The belly pump holds 6 quarts and the level is checked by a dipstick in the belly pump filler, many of these dipsticks are missing now, but you can still find one if you don't have one, I see them on eBay a lot.

Andy.

Oil flows between the transmission and rearend, there is a lower area at the front of the transmission that holds oil after the rear is drained - that's why there is another plug there.

Drain from both plugs, re-fill with 85w-140, 6 gallons or until it runs out the plug on the side by the clutch rod.

Belly pump holds 6 quarts, but will avoid damage to the pump down to about 2 quarts or so. Better to keep it full, though.

Make sure that the plug "adjacent to the window(?)" wasn't the drain plug for the belly pump reservoir.
