How can I tighten the fan belt on my 1961 Cub? Have read the manual and website but can not find anything on this.

Also, I can not see a water pump, does it have one? The manual talks of a different type of cooling system, but can not understand how it works, no thermoastat???????(am use to old Fords only).

You guys are great, I have received answers and advice and everything is correct. Thanks in advance. David.

My Cub is an older model, the fan is on a bracket that slides up to tighten the belt, also there is no water pump, cooling works on a thermal system hot water rises to the top and circulates thru the radiator.Ed

The fan shaft sits in a slot in the engine front cover. Look closely at the shaft. It will either be hexagonal or will have two flats. Loosen by turning the shaft. Do not try to turn the nut on the rear of the shaft. Raise the fan in the slot to tighten the belt and then tighten the shaft by turning it clockwise.

Cooling is done through a thermosiphon system. It's not as effective as a water pump, but it is sufficient for a well-tuned Cub.

Hot water rises to the top of the engine, up through the top radiator pipe, and into the radiator. Water cools in the radiator due to the fan, sinks to the bottom, and runs back into the bottom of the engine.
