hi i am looking for info for a super h front seal. i am rebuilding the motor and bought a kit with all the seals and gaskets but when i went to replace the front seal the old one is all encased in one unit with the rubber seal and felt inner seal all in one unit. in the new kit there is a rubber seal that is open in the back and there is a felt doughnut but nothing to hold the felt part in place like the old one. do i need to buy more parts or did i miss something ? any info would be greatly app thanks jody

There was a felt ring left in the box of gaskets I ordered with the rebuild of my '51 H. The lip seal that presses in the timing gear cover is enough to keep the front from leaking.

The original seal had a leather lip and a felt ring all in one assembly. The felt was to the front and this also put the leather lip forward. It was there to keep dirt from entering the crankcase rather the just sealing the oil in. The current seal is just the single lip type. I think the felt ring you have there is too big for the crankshaft seal. It is for the water pump.
