Hydraulics on a '42 H

I'd like to spiffy up the 3 hydraulic ports on my H. I'm working on the transmission and hydraulic shafts at the moment and so have the belly open. I can see these tubes where they emerge from the pump. Question is .. if I remove these supply lines and clean them up will I regret that I did so because of leaks after replacing them? Will I have to drain the hydraulic oil if I decide to go ahead?

Also .. when working on the shafts I mentioned above I drained all the transmission fluid from the machine. There was about 8 quarts of BLACK, THICK stuff - nasty. It's probably more than 60 years old. What should I replace this with?

Thanks in advance. More questions to come when I dream them up!

those three pipe are just pipe nipples nuthin special clean-um up and put a little pipe dope and reinstall as far as the oil they (farmall) back in the day recomend six quarts of30 wt. motor oil but you can run hydraulic fluid if you like

Pipe fittings usually don't leak much, just use a small amount of pipe dope. Don't use tape. Trans/rear end, 90W, 80W90, 140, etc. SAE 30 is fine for that pump.

It is going to be easiest (because of that spring in there) to remove the pipe directly from the pump ... still think there would be little problem?

That tranny should be flushed. Put about a gal of diesel, a gallon of any old oil in there. Drive it around 15 mins low speed. Then drain that and add your 85-140 gear oil. It takes over 5 gals to do it. Not cheap but nesessary.
