F-20 steel wheels

Bought a full set of steels for my '38 F-20. After trying to install them today I finally figured out my lug bolts are bigger than the holes. Duh! The studs mic out at .750 and the holes at about .650, give or take a few thou on the measurements. The pattern appears to be the same (is it?) so it will just be a matter of drilling bigger holes. The rims came off an F-20 so why wouldn't they fit?

Just get the bolts off the other F-20 and put them in yours. How is your tractor restoration going? Have not heard much from you lately.

As for the resto. She's all primered and boxed up except for the tranny and bolster. Needs a bit of blasting for those. In the meantime I have remodeled a kitchen and built a summer cabin. Time is of the essence here.

Scott, I think I have a set of rear wheel bolts for a F-20 in good condition. Let me know if you are interested in them or not. Email is open.

Andy.

Of the six lug bolts two are larger than the other four. It's hard to tell by eye balling the holes, they must be measured for the determination. A quick and frustration free way to tell is to slip a chisel into each of the holes. Two of the holes will let the chisel head go further in than the other four. Mark the two larger ones well enough so you can see them for alighnment sake while your wrestling the wheel on. Use a caliper for the bolts. They call the larger ones dowl bolts I think and no one has ever been able to give me a good reason why IHC did that.
Have fun.

I mic'd all the bolts and they're all the same. I also mic'd all the holes and they're all the same. I ended up drilling them all out to 3/4" and it fits like a glove.

You measured the bolt holes on an F-20 rear wheel hub and found no difference? That's interesting. I have never run across an F-20 or a Farmall Regular where the bolt holes were not "two and four". Must be metric calipers.

Interesting. Well I measured the rim first and all holes were the same. Then the bolts and they were all at .742. I drilled the holes to .750 and it fit perfect and tight. I'll have to look in my parts book and see about the rims. It lists several styles.

Scott,
I think I see where we are geting discombobulated. I am referencing the tractor hubs. I know for a fact the bolts, both sizes, will go through steel wheels and round spokers because I have done it. I have swapped wheels on my F-20 and Regular more times than I care to remember. There are two larger dowl or pin bolt holes on the rear hub for two correspondingly larger bolts. Visually it is really hard to tell them apart. There are four smaller wheel bolts for the rear hub that are smaller in diameter than the larger dowl/pin bolts which fit the correspondingly four smaller holes on the hub. F-20s and Regulars will swap as they have identical bolt patterns. Why you have six bolts of the same size I don't know. What I am certain of is if they are of the same size they will not all fit all the bolt holes on the tractor. Hope this helps.
