Questions about Farmall H pistons and head

I am restoring a Farmall H. Engine block 1943 and head is 8043-DC 3-20-X (1952). This engine now has flat top pistons but will need new pistons and sleeves. My questions are:

1) How can I tell if I can use firecreator pistons or should I stick with the flat top ones??

2) This tractor has a mag. If I use firecreator pistons will I have a starting problem due to the higher compression??
Thanks for your replys

Unless you are way modified, the fire craters will not cause problems at all. The mag will work just fine. Not an issue.
Make sure you have 00 gauge bat cables, and a good battery, and it will fire fine. JimN

Wherever you order from should be able to tell you what pistons will work with that casting number head.

You won't have any trouble starting it on 6-volts with good heavy cables and a good battery... might I recommend the Optima with 1000 CCA? It spins my H over like a 12-volt battery!

The magneto will work fine, no problem, but you should have a 12 volt system if you don't already, a 6V won't crank a high compression engine very fast and may not crank at all in cold winters.

If it will turn over, it will start. Doesn't take much to light a fire on these old girls.

6-volts has worked for many decades and will continue to work if in proper repair.

Yes, some still crank on 6 volts but most I've seen are switched to 12 volts, it is nicer because they will always start on a 12 volt battery and start faster. We converted all our tractors to 12 volts and I like it better. Something I don't really understand though is why my neighbor put a 12 volt system on his Farmall A, I think an A is fine on 6 volts.

Yes you can go with the fire-crater types. If you go with them you will want to go to a dist instead of the mag, You cannot advance the mag for starting but with the dist you can have advance for starting. I put a fire-crater type in a B and it would not start with a mag but used a dist and started great. Old mech said there was a buletin from I-H telling them when instaling Fire-Craters use a dist.
