i have a mccormick deering 10-20 industrial (I-20).that is missing the original serial# tag. the serial on the engine is 1N7826 and 12-31-28 is on the bottom of the transmission.it was yellow from the factory and has higher than normal gears and splined rear axles.it never had fenders either. if anyone would have any info on this it would be very helpful.

My buddy has one also, IN10978. Like yours, it has faster gearing and also huge internal expanding band brakes on each wheel in addition to the standard brake. Don't recall about the splined axles. Also has a pintle hitch, no drawbar or PTO.

Original serial tag actually identifies it as a Model 20 Industrial, NOT 10-20 Industrial.

I have a picture of the tractor from about 30 years ago, give or take, at a tractor pull. Front end is up in the air 6 or 8 inches, looks to be around 1000lbs weight on the rears. Funny thing is, the front axle is visibly loose, almost ready to fall off the frame.

My friend remembers seeing the tractor pushing/pulling railroad cars when he was a kid. Used to have wooden bracing built around it somehow to do this.

Right now it's all tore apart to replace the main bearings. One day that'll get finished.

IH was a little inconsistent on what they called that model, using all of these at one time or another:

"McCormick-Deering Industrial Tractor"
"McCormick-Deering 10-20 Industrial"
"Model 20 Industrial"

I imagine the first would not have been used after the industrial version of the 15-30 was introduced in 1928. It was called:
"McCormick-Deering 15-30 Industrial"
"Model 30 Industrial"

I don't know whether multiple versions of these names were put on the serial number plates or not.

I had an article on early industrial tractors on the July-August '06 Red Power. It is still available as a back issue.

ours has the pintle hitch but not the brakes.it also has solid cast front rims with rubber and a leaf spring front suspension.ours original engine is apart for the same reason.is there any way you could post the picture

If I can scan the pic in, I'll post it.

This I-20 has spoked front rims and a leaf spring suspension front axle. Somebody extended the gear shifter so you can stand up and operate the tractor. Maybe a factory modification??
