Cub ground strap location

Another newby question: Where does the ground strap for the positive ground six volt electrical system attach to the 1949 Cub? The one on mine is attached to the battery box which seems odd to me. I think it would be bolted to the rear of the transmission body. Just another tiny piece of the Cub puzzle. I received my reprint manual; however the pictures are unclear (and that is an under statement).

When I rstored my 49, I found remants of the starp inside the box, bolted to one of the bolts in the bottom. Thats where I put the new one.

The original ground cable was only about 8" long and attached to the battery box. Many people attach them somewhere else. You can attach a ground strap of appropriate length to one of the box retaining bolts and run it up the front of the battry inside the box.

The main thing is to make sure you have clean connections wherever you connect it. If you attach to the battery box, you need to make sure the box is well grounded.

I had a ground problem with mine, I relocated it to the front left corner of the transmition cover. Works fine now.

Yes, the original location was a hole in the top lip of the battery box.

Obviously this isn't an ideal setup. The box is just thin metal, and rots out.

When I replaced the box on mine, I used one of those braided cables, ran it down around and under the battery to one of the mounting bolts in the rear end housing.
