Friend has a 400 farmal 6v pos grd. that wouldn't start, not knowing much about 6v tractors I switched the batt. terminals thinking they were wrong and it started right up but didn't charge. After serfing the web I discovered the batt. termials were correct. Pos. goes to frame and neg. goes to starter, but it won't hardly turn it over, it is a new battery. Can someone help?

The starters performance problem is NOT a function of Pos or Neg ground, either still turns it and the same direction, of course.

FIRST thing I would do is remove, clean n wire brush, n reattach each n every battery n starter n starter switch/solenoid n ground connection.

For 6 volt systems I recommend the use of 0 or better yet 00 gauge battery n starter n ground cables

Has the battery been Load tested?? Is it good n charged?? I recommend the biggest heaviest highest rated battery that will physically fit

It may well be a cable or connection problem CHECK THAT N DO AS POSTED ABOVE n make sure the battery is good n fully charged.

If you reverse battery polarity the genny should have been polarized or else the Voltage Regulator may have been damaged. Once you reconenct the battery be sure n Poalrize the genny BEFORE you start it.

Yep, what John says.

If it spins okay with the battery hooked one way, it'll spin okey hooked up the other way.

Think ya had a bad connection.

Any particular "style" of music you people do?
Sometime at a tractor show or other type show, a bunch of us tractor folk should have a music jam. I know John T mentioned the possibility connected with the March Gathering of the Green. I was at GOG but didn"t know about the jam possibility until I was there and I didn"t bring my guitar - bummer. I play a little (musically little) guitar. It would be great fun to gather. I like gospel, folk, country stuff. Currently play with a group that entertains in nursing homes and the like.
