Bad Day for an M !

Today a gentleman came over my house a few weeks ago to look at his M. Today i had a min and went over to take a look at it. I get there and the guys like i think its got a odd noise coming from the engine but im not sure, he also said maybe its the water pump squeaking? I told if to fire it up so he after he fired it up and ran it for a few mins and got it warm, it just went ehhhhhh!!!! and thats it seized right up. It did not throw a rod or have any damage the block in anyway. But i think that it seized up one of the rod bearings or possible a main. Now i have a winter project the gentleman wants me to tear it all apart and rebuild it all. I just thought that it was pretty ironic that i was over there to look at fixing it and it seized up on the spot.

yes oil level and pressure were good. Its not my first time looking at a tractor lol And no smoke or any signs of poor running just SIZED up. not even a knock or ting before.

It may or may not be as serious as a siezed bearing. Possibly a piston ring broke? Might try removing the starter, get a pry bar on the flywheel and try turning the engine backwards?
Probably wouldn't hurt to drop the oil pan first and have look though.

When one does that who knows what may or may not have been done to it before you got there. I have seen more then one that locked up, then the guy who owns it put oil back in and let it cool and then it would turn again but the damage had already been done but he did not fill in all the blanks. Sort of like the woman that came into a gas station and said can you get my car running again. Guy asked what was wrong. She told him well the oil light came on and I drove it and then it just stopped running. He said well sorry I can't help you should have stopped when the light came on. She asked why he said because if you had it could have been fixed with a $2 qt. of oil now it needs a $2000 engine

I wish the hell you"d learn to spell and punctuate.

In fact, I wish most people who post here, would do the same.

The state of illiteracy amongst the general population.....which means those who are also allowed to breed and vote in general elections, amazes me.

Didn"t you folks attend school? I am satisfied the public school system in your area, provided at least, a modicum of educational opportunity for you and your peers. Therefore, that only leaves yourselves to blame for your inability to fluently communicate via the written word.

Sorry there professor and thanks for the grammer lesson there buddy, didnt know this was an English class. P.S. sorry that i upset you, what a joke. L O L !

Mark, I am sure there is a program for educated folks such as yourself on the system somewhere, maybe you should seek it out if these old tractor talk guys bother you. Most of them know what they are talking about when it comes to tractors, which is the reason for this forum. You can count all the mistakes I made in this post and let me know,I didn't do well in english.ED

I have to agree with Mark, up to a point. I've seen too many high school graduates who aren't even capable of filling out an employment application. Heaven forbid we should flunk someone and make them repeat a class or an entire grade.

I recently read a test required for graduation from the 8th grade 100 years ago. I have 5+ years of college, and I'd be hard put on some of it without some serious boning up. I admit, lack of communication skills by our current general population is a sore spot with me. We're producing an entire society of functional illiterates, and the problem isn't with just the current generation. It goes back through several generations of parents and grandparents who spend more time harrassing teachers instead of working with the teachers to challenge the students to learn something.

Now, as communication skills apply to this board, how can someone expect to get an informed and intelligent solution to something if they're not capable of expressing their problem coherently? I've read some posts several times without ever figuring out what the person was getting at.

My rant for the day.

i don't care about spelling and/or punctuation. the point gets across. we're here to help one another,if you don't like it, go to a jd forum

Mark, you obviously have some issues that need to be addressed. It doesn't appear that it actually has anything to do with punctuation, literacy, sentence structure, or anything else.

It has to do with "inadequacy."

I've learned over the years that the people who try to impress others with their mastery of the English, or any other, language, often have few other skills. They are aware of that, but don't like to admit it to themselves. It makes them feel superior to attack others for their shortcomings.
This forum is for helping, sharing and growing, all while enjoying the comradery.

YOU evidently don't get that.

A fundamental rule I learned along time ago was:

Do unto others as you would have done unto you.

and

Let those who are without sin cast the first stone.

I'm neither a biblical scholar, nor even particularly religious. But I do recognize basic truths and understand what things are important and what are not.
Let me point out that Andrew's point was clear despite any typing or other errors.
That is the point. His goal, of communication and solicitation of information, was successfully completed.
Getting the job done is the important thing, not "how" it’s done.
I once saw a "good ol' boy,” who never completed high school, save a man pinned in a burning vehicle, by wrapping a chain around the man's door, hooking it to the hitch on his truck and jerking the door off the burning truck, freeing the trapped driver. There were two "professional" firemen there, trying to keep the fire back, but for lack of "PROPER" tools, couldn't figure out how to free the man. They were very resistant to the good ol' boy's idea because it wasn't consistent with standards of the day. I know at least ONE individual who was very much in favor of the idea, and is still living today because of it.
My point? I'd rather have a 250 lb. corn fed illiterate who knows how to solve problems and get things done than some sanctimonious expert who can only criticize on "how" its being done.
You sir, fall into the latter category.

By the way, before you attack ME for my paragraph structure, or spelling or syntax errors or whatever, make note that you evidently failed to proofread your own text. I'm sure EVERYONE know that a quotation mark is not used in a contraction to separate the two parts of the word. It should be an apostrophe. Check your text. The words you"d in your first sentence and Didn"t in your last paragraph. Even my small public school with no more than 400 students total covered what the correct punctuation mark should be.
Despite any errors in my writing, (and I don't care if there are any,) I think I've been successful in making my point.

Kindly seek counseling.

I have to slightly agree with mark. I love talking about old tractors, or anything mechanical for that matter, but it is very difficult to read what some people write and even more difficult to understand what the heck they are talking about. If people would just step back, take a look at what they have written to see if it makes sense to them, it would be a large improvement.

So please at least make sure you can understand what you have written before you post it, or you could even have someone else read it, to make sure that it makes sense.

The point is not proper grammar, you can have poor grammar and still make sense, but so many of these posts do not even make sense.
