worm gear on 300u steering

I am attempting to remove the worm gear from the manual steering housing on my 300U. I was told it should just screw right out. It appears that the (lower bearing?) won't clear the small cam on the gears. Am I missing something? Wanting to put on a after market power steering unit, and I'm stuck almost before I get started.

i have had mine a part . can't remember but i think you have to remove the guts in the box first . i would be interested in the manual steerig if you want to sell it . i sent you a email .

I am afraid I'm not sure what will be left. I took a sawzall to the mast under the wheel in an attempt to get the gear out. I'm located in central iowa.

The only thing that I'll be removing is the worm gear. The other two gears stay and assist in the steering unit. Sorry! I think I may have to remove them though just to get that worm gear out?!?!
