Super A and Brush Hog and 3pt or pull behind

I have a 1951 super A and need a brush hog. Should I invest in a 3pt hitch and a 3pt hitch brush hog or should I find a pull behind. Will the super A have enough power? Any suggestions on brands for 3pt"s or brush hogs. Thanks Greg

FWIW, I have a "49 SA. I had a King Kutter brush hog that came with it, and it was extremely heavy, and my SA had trouble mowing uphill. I swapped mowers with my father-in-law for his AVCO New Idea with the same width cutter, which seemed like HALF the weight, and I have no problem at all now. So by my experience, think about the weight, because there can be a huge difference.

I have a '54 SA that I use with a 4' King Kutter on a 3pt. conversion.
I tried a 5' to start with, but it was too heavy and the hitch was too wide.
It"s good to be able to lift the mower to get a higher cut on tall grass, but I really haven"t had too much trouble with that. As long as my machine is in tune, it will cut whatever I ask it too. Tree stumps excepted.
I can't be much help on the conversion kit. Mine already had it when I bought the tractor.

Thanks for your replys. I'm looking at a older pull behind that I think will do the trick. I have all the other attachments needed minus the brush hog so not sure if the 3pt is nessesary

I have a Super A with a hitch 5" Howser brush Hog works well as long as grass isn"t too high. Remember to line up with your PTO with the trailer hitch type Brush Hog Had mine for 8 years, no problems

Ever consider a sickle-bar mower? I live out on the high plaines of Colorado, which is grass-land desert. We have very little top-soil. I see folk out there on riding mowers and with brush hogs, and I see a cloud of dust around them wherever they go. Brush-hogs and riding mowers take what little top soil we have and throw it to the winds.

Then, I got a neighbor with a real Farmall cub that had a sickle-bar on it. That little tractor cut the high plaines grass with ease, and it was so quiet! No dust cloud. No high-revving little motor. My neighbor just calmly and quietly cut wide swaths of prairie. Alas, he moved right after he got the cub.

Ive had my eyes on a Case VA in the neighborhood. I'm not sure it is a complete tractor. It looks as if the guy took the engine off to rebuild it, and never got round to putting it back together. It has a sickle bar mower on it, and I'd hate to see it all get hauled off for scrap. It's been there for over 10 years.

I also just got a 3-pt for my M, and have been eyeballing 3-pt sickle bar mowers on e-bay.

Are sickle-bar mowers dangerous? Yes! It is very easy to lose a finger, especially when stowing the bar. But they have many advantages, too. For cutting boggy areas, they're much lighter than a brush hog. For cutting ditches or tall grass, don't discount a sickle bar mower.
