H M trans bearings.

I just purchased two bearings, brake shaft seals, pinion shaft seals, three gaskets for the diff and two bearings for the trans & pinion shaft. It was over 300.00. I now have CR part numbers for the seals and Fafner bearing numbers off of the new bearings that I purchased. I have another H to rebuild that will need all new bearings and two M trans/diffs to rebuild. Does anybody have a list of what the bearings cross over to from the IH bearing numbers for the H & M tractors?

I would doubt any of those bearings interchange between M and H. If you haven"t already look in the yellow pages for an industrial bearing supply company. Trust me, you will save a ton of money and they should be able to cross the IH numbers to the bearings they handle. When I did my H, IH wanted 299 for a wheel bearing and Coldwell in Terre Haute, IN wanted 69 for the same bearing!

I can get you a complete list of bearings for a Super M, most, if not all will be the same for the M. Can't help you on the H.

Shop around at bearing supply houses for prices. If you are anywhere near Dallas try A&W bearing. Another place that has good prices is the E.B. Atmus company. go to www.ebatmus.com

All of the bearings are in metric dimensions. Measure the ID, OD and width on your H bearings and convert them to metric. Then you can look up the sizes yourself.

The only bearing I had to buy from IH was the trans pilot bearing. Also bought the reverse idler bushings from IH.

Thanks for the link for the Atmus Co. I'll check it out for this other H trans. I had to buy the trans pilot bearing for this first one from the local IH dealer. It was 74.00 and it's the smallest bearing in the trans. If you have time and if it's not too much of a hassle, The list of M bearings would be helpful. My email is [email protected] Thanks again.

I got my pilot bearing from Coldwell also, but it cost $40. I had to take my old one to them and they had to order it in from an obsolete bearing house, but they had it next day. It is a "Bower type" bearing.

The new one I bought from IH was a Bower. It was only $96. I ran out of time to shop around for that one, but I'll to look harder next time!

Here's what I got, just remember that this list is for a Super M and I haven't done an M yet so I'm not sure if they are 100% the same.

axle shaft inner 214W
axle shaft outer 214S

input shaft front 308MG
input shaft rear 309M

countershaft front 207KG
"" rear 211K

Pinion shaft 311
Bull pinion 213M
Differential 216M

PTO 208S

Some of these are TIMKEN and some are MRC. Timken owns Fafnir and some others and MRC is owned by SKF.

Now I did "upgrade" some of mine. For example on the pinion shaft I put in a 311M instead of 311. The "M" means a "Max Type" bearing (for timken that suffix is a "W") and has more balls and thus more load capacity with a small reduction in axial load capacity. I did the same for the outer axle bearings, using a 214WD. (I couldn't find a max type with one shield so I ordered one with two and removed one of the shields.)

The various suffixes will tell you if it's max type or if it has snap ring grooves or shields. You'll notice these as you take the old ones out.
Go to SKF.com or Timken.com for their lists and explanations, tons of good info.

Hope this helps!

Thanks for all the info guys. The list of M bearings will save me a lot of time. I'll check to make sure that they are the same from M to super M but I'll bet they are the same.
