H cracked housing

just picked up an H, turns out neighbors kids towing sleds last winter went to close to a tree in 3rd gear..cracked axle housing..so i removed the axle housing hoping that that was the only busted part..NOT!.. the main housing under the seat also is cracked about 10"..so..can i "V" it out weld it with some low hydrogen rod? should I swap out entire center section? (not sure if it is cost effective)...or take the whole hunk of iron to the scrap yard.. any suggestions is appreciated..

One of my H's must have lost a bearing one time and the ball went through underneath the bull gear...so I drove it to the welding shop, drained the oil out of the rear and then had the crack ground out and welded full with a rod for welding cast iron. After it cooled we poured the oil back into the rear end and I drove it the 12 miles back home...end of the story..very satisfied!

If you can have it fixed, I would have it done but if you decide to find replacement parts and want to keep the tractor as original as possible, youll have to find parts with the casting date code close to the parts that your taking off. If your going to restore and show it, this would make it more valuable but if it is just being used around the yard or on the farm, I would just find the parts you need.

If you need one, I have a rear end I will sell cheap just to get it out of my way. It is a 41 H and has the rear diff gears still in it and axels and wheels. I am in west central Indiana.

You can weld it. If your using gas(oxy/acetaline?) use min working pressure and use an old piston ring as a filler rod. Hold the ring in some sort of grips because the heat transfer is out of this world. Super weld but @*^l to grind smooth MTF
