Super M won't stay timed

I replaced the magneto on my Super M and it runs great until it is shut off. Once it is started again it runs badly, like it is out of time. It is even spraying oil out of the air cleaner. I tried timing it 3 times and every time it would run fine until it was shutoff and restarted. Any Ideas? Could this be a faulty magneto? Thanks in advcance!

A mag should be times so that the impulse coupling snaps at TDC. As it gets up to running speed (even low idle), a governor system advances the timing to run correctly at full load. It will run a bit ragged at low speed, but not as described. If it is the correct mag, (and not from a diesel which turn backwards) it should act the way I described. if it starts pretty well I suspect the issue may be in the impulse coupling system. JimN

You need to check for fire to your plugs when you
try to restart the tractor. You should hear the impulse coupling snapping when cranking. I would install a new set of points and condenser to rule them out. I was wondering if the grounding switch
is somehow at fault. Try unhooking the grounding wire at the mag when trying a restart. Hal

I had the same problem on one of my H's. It was the roto disc. It was not a tight fit and would change a few degrees.

David, I am a novice when it comes to this tractor. What are you refering to when you say "roto disk" and what did you do to correct this problem? Tony
