H Farmall leaking gas tank

Hi, I restored an H Farmall 6 or 7 years ago and I"m having issues with my gas tank. I had to replace the original a couple years ago due to rust problems. Since I bought and painted up this newer one, one of the baffles has come loose on the inside. Even before that though, it always leaked gas by the gas cap and down the side of the tank. Needless to say the paint is wrecked, but I"m wondering if there"s any way to fix it or if I need to just find a different one.

Also, I do have the tall safety gas cap if that makes any difference.

The loose baffle is a welding job. And I have never had nerve enough to weld on a gas tank. The survivors say that it can be done...

As far as the leak, it sounds like the cap is not sealing. Is the rubber seal on the gas cap still soft enough that you can remove it ? If so, try cutting a thin sheet metal shim to go behind the rubber gasket.

Yeah I agree about the welding thing. It would make no difference whatsoever to me to have that baffle fixed as long as it would quit leaking. I actually bought the tall gas cap brand new, so everything should be nice and pliable.

I may try shimming it up, that sounds logical.
