haybine with the old H

Hi, I am tired of cutting my hay with a sickle bar mower, the hay takes too long to dry, pitman arms keeps broking, mower clogging, and so on

My question is, will the old H pull a 9ft haybine? it is no problem pulling the massey ferguson no.9 square baler even on hilly grounds

thanks for all your comments

Thats a yes no or maybe. I use an Oliver 77 to pull my NH460 MOCO and in the heavy stuff it makes the 77 bark at times. An H is around 26HP and the Oliver 77 is 38. Only way to know for sure is try it and see what happens. Oh and by the way my ford 841 has trouble pulling that NH460 but the Oliver 77 does a good job and the ford is 45HP go figure so not all HP ratings add up to the same torque power

You just need to spend a few bucks and get a much better sickle mower. Find an IH 1000 or 1100. Wobble box trail type mower.
I use on and cut 5 foot high brome grass, alfalfa and everything and it just mows the stuff down (pun).
But like anything used, you need to get the manual, adjust the tilt correctly, adjust and or replace wear plates, get modern serrated under knife and get everything right. Grass bars are always missing, they need to be in place. Lead at the tip set right. Weight at the outer and inner shoe setup right. It ain't rocket science, it's a little tougher!

Rich, you taking good care of my Super 88??? If the price of petrol ever come down some or I become "rich and famous" I'll show up with truck and trailer, and not to haul hay either..hhhhmmmmmmmm.....lol

Oh by the way, I have an Industrial 192ci ford eng. 60+ hp that will fit right in your Ford..

Thanks for the replies it is appreciated, I have a good sickle mowewr, it is a new holland 47MOWER 7ft it works good but it still doesn't have a conditioner to remove water from the hay so it would dry faster

I think I'll go pick up that haybine!!

thanks again

I used the H last week with my NH 469 .560 is down for a few weeks.......worked fine....just couldnt work it like my 560 but it got the job done....wouldnt be my favorite tractor to pull it though..

I use an M on my 479 and I wouldn't want any less horse power. I'm cutting pretty tall timothy. H might be OK on a 7 ft haybine.

Grew up on a 841 Powermaster and I remember it as a VERY weak 45 hp (gas). The only reason my Grandfather said he never threw a match to the fuel tank was the factory Ford front dozer blade. It proved it was invaluable, if even on a sorry tractor. I say weak but I was comparing it to a Ford 6600 (Diesel), Deere 3020 (Diesel), and now my Farmall 504 (Diesel). Now I have seen a few Powermaster's with a diesel and also a few with a front drive axle. These usually served as small skidders.

Keith, if you where to try to pick up that S88 you better have a very good bullet proof vest and also dog proof vest. LOL That ones my baby and right now you have to be real smart just to start the old girl

My dad mowed hay for years with a super H pulling 9 ft, New Holland haybines. We have some pretty good hills and never had any trouble always ran in third gear. The conditioner makes a big differance in drydown speed expecially in alfalfa hay.
