Wanting to put the 40 Deere to pasture

Hello,
I placed second twice over the weekend to the same tractor. I have a '52 Super C. He has a 40 Deere. The only thing I have done is replaced the muffler with a straight pipe to let her breathe. Any ideas to gain a few more pony's? He has been out pulling me by roughly 40'. I don't have any problem loosing traction it's a matter of power. Someone suggested porting and polishing the head? Someone suggested taking out the air cleaner screen? Thanks for the help.

He probably has the 420/430 internals in that tractor.

You can put a 153 cubic inch combine motor in that tractor if you seriously want to win. If you want to kep the 123 cubic inch engine, look for a propane head and some high altitude pistons. Put a bigger jet in the carb. Make sure you have the full amount of distributor advance, and change spark plugs.

I don't think I've ever seen a 2 cylinder deere at a tractor pull that still had the stock innards in the engine. If ya wanna beat 'em, ya gotta play the game the same way.

You might want to check your timing, carburetor settings, etc... From what I've seen those 2 cylinder yard ornaments can't hang with real tractors.
