i bought a 340 international ulility tractor with a loader. it was in pretty rough shape to say the least. but it runs good. so i bought a parts 340 tractor to piece the other tractor back together. but my problem is how do u hook up the hydraulics that go back to the 3 pt. hitch. i got everything hooked up. besides the handle that accually controls the hitch. and the part that goes down to the pump. dose the top pump work the hitch or the belly pump? PLEASE POST PICS OF THE WAY THE HYDRAULICS HOOK UP. Thanks for any pics/info u can give me.

There is only one pump (to my knowledge) and it is on the engine front right side. The hydraulics are controlled by a reservoir and valving under, and to the right of the seat. Look at the parts layout in caseih.com web sight for clear insight. JimN

NCFarmer,

A good look at the case IH parts catalog will provide breakdown schematic's for your tractor. This is a really valuable resource.

Just type
340 international utility
in the search

Edit:
Okay, I can't get the url to work but if you go to caseih.com you can get there!!

It all depends which version of hydraulic system is on your 340. Theres either the hydra-touch system, where the lever is mounted up to the right of the dash. Or the Tel-e-depth version where the lever is mounted to the right of the seat. Since Im not looking at what all youve got the best I can tell you like Janicholson is go the CaseIH parts website. Unless you post pictures of all the parts youve got I cant help you much.

Only 1 pump is correct. But depending on how it was ordered, it may have the pump mounted at the front of the engine under the distributor, OR it may be equipped with the optional internal tranmission mounted pump.

There are three modules on your hydraulic manifold. My 340U has a four module manifold. The unit on the far left (four bolts) is the pressure regulator. On the far right side (with the lever you're looking at) is the Tele-Touch unit, which is to run remote hydraulics. That shaft coming out of the front is for switching either single or double acting hydraulic cylinder.

The Tele-Depth unit, which is connected to the rear hitch, is the second module from the left. It's lever comes out on it's left side and is angled down, and is connected by a linkage that runs under the seat.

Coming out of the bottom of the Tele_Depth valve, there is a bolted flange with two lines that run back to the hitch. They run under the seat to the check valve, which is connected to the cylinder of the hitch with hydraulic hoses. I just made new lines on mine because the originals had apparently rusted out, and the prior owner had spliced in hydraulic hoses that were a foot and a half too long.

That rod near the top is the linkage from the Tele-Depth valve going back to the controls. The linkage is a pretty complicated arrangement, and there's an entire manual for it.

Is any of this getting close to what you're wanting to know?

From the looks of your photos, you may have an aftermarket pump for the loader driven off of your crankshaft. (Is it a Wagner?) The pump that drives the power steering and the hitch is the one by the distributor (do you have one?). If you do, it is the 9 gpm option. If not, you may have the 11 gpm internal hydraulic pump. Got an overall photo of the right side?

Ih340 can have both pumps, timing gear drive and transmission driven, and be on the same tractor for whatever uses it was setup for. I have one that used the timing gear pump for the threepoint hitch and the transmission pump was used for something else, I suspect it was used to drive a hydraulic motor for whatever use. Be careful on patching up the three point linkage because the early models used a cable follower system, and the later used the stiff rod, I think either one can be used in its entirity, but you can't use a piece one (early or late) HTH

Im with Paul any chance you could post a picture of the right side of the tractor, as well as one of the left side. Than we could tell for certain if the valves are being supplied by the front pump, or if it has a pump in the torque tube supplying them.

Thanks.......Jordan
