dwell setting

Can anyone tell me how to find the dwell on a 'B' w/ batt.ignition. I've been chasing point settings for 2 weeks. Some play in the shaft, but not extreme. I have a dwell meter and am getting 60-68% dwell, which converts to about 54-62 on my 4 cyl scale, but I don't know what it should be? Any suggestions? PLEASE HELP Thanks, Sam

Divide 360 degrees (circle) by the # of cylinders.
360 / 4 = 90. Dwell time (points are closed) should be 2/3 of that amount. 90 X 2/3 = 60 degrees of dwell for 4 cylinders.
Just set the point gap at .020" and forget the dwell. Tractors are not that fussy when running at 1850 rpm.

The perfect answer, Wayne. Good job.

Thanks Guys, I've set the points @ .020 numerous times but my shaft must be worn worse than I thought because it changes after I run it then check it again. I was setting points on cars when you had to, so I've had plenty of practice. Anyway, I finally got the dwell very close to 60^ and it runs pretty good. I also ordered a shaft, bushings, and an electronic ignition. Thanks again, Sam Lone Jack, MO
