Hydraulic sounds IH 686

Since I'm new to the number series tractors (IH 686 with D312
motor) I thought some of you might help me. When the tractor
set for a few day and is started there is odd sounding noises from
hydraulic pump. The 3 pt will be slow to work and after a short
while the noise will disappear and everything seems normal. Any
help on this would be appreciated. I have manuals on order and
hope to get them next week.

Try changing the hy tran and hydraulic filter.

We had a 686 and it would have some air in the system and the kunk-kunk sound would come from under the operator's platform. We never thought anything was wrong with it...how long is the 3 pt slow? Does the tractor have a lot of hours on it? If so hy-tran probably would help.

You're hearing the filter bypass valve vibrating/singing.

Change the filter and belly oil.

It doesn't take long for the lift to start working. But last night I left the 3 pt arms raised and when I went to the barn this morning the arms were all the way down. Evidently I have other problems. Would appreciate and advice I can get. I have a SA I've had since the fall of 1965 and have had very little with the hydraulics other than replace the O rings and seals in the pump. Also have a 1953 SM I got in July 2001 no problems with it. Did convert it to 12v and everything works fin'
