130 Stopped Charging

I"m not sure why. Ammeter sometimes works. so I didn"t catch it. Been mowing with it, so I figured I might have knocked a wire loose on a low tree branch, but I didn"t find anything.

Where do I start testing? It has a 12 volt delco generator, still positive ground and looks like original voltage regulator.

Take a volt meter and check the charging voltage at the battery. Should have around 14 volts with the engine at 1/2 throttle or better. If you don't see the charging voltage near that you may need new brushes in the generator. Hal

just want to thank you for putting this charging system test proceedure together. i have copies printed out at both farms. gosh darn handy as heck. great job on it, i really appreciate it!!!

Youre welcome, it got asked soooooooo many times I had to save my answer as a canned one size fits all response to save time.

John T is a hero! I have his procedure stapled into my I&T service manual as an addendum.

Did you ever fix it to address the case where after you unground the F terminal, the generator continues charging? I replaced the regulator on mine and it's worked great ever since.
